Backup Solutions

Today, a company is so dependent on its access to digital data that when a disaster strikes the information network, it is the very heart of the company that is threatened.

The causes of the disaster are irrelevant — a virus, a flood or even human error — it is the impact on the operations of the company which are really important. In most cases if access to the data is not rapidly restored, important losses can be anticipated. If the situation deteriorates, it can be the very survival of the company which is at risk.

Because of this, backup operations have become critical. The procedures and strategies are as important as the technical tools: when a disaster strikes, the worst situation (with the exception of having no backup) is to have a backup which cannot be restored.

All these issues introduce important and difficult challenges which are often underestimated not only by administrators but also by decision makers. The problems Orinux have observed are the same no matter what the nature of the company or the complexity of the site may be:

  • the software is selected without a detailed analysis of its features and without an accurate assessment of the company’s needs
  • the people responsible for the solution have not received sufficient training to use it in an effective way
  • production operations are ignored, making the go-live process inefficient which leads to uncertain results
  • emphasis is put on the backup operations, when the restoration process is much more important

Orinux has solid skills and experience in the analysis and the installation of backup and restoration solutions. Our services are centred around in-built operating system and database tools, as well as commercial software such as Tivoli Storage Manager, NetBackup, Time Navigator and Storix.

Our services comprise of:

  • analyzing existing procedures and infrastructure, as well as the volume and criticality of data
  • defining the needs in terms of volume, Recovery Point Objective (the minimum amount of data that must be reinstated), Recovery Time Objective (the maximum amount of time allowed for restoring the data and reinstating those which were lost)
  • developing the enterprise's global strategy in relation to its real needs
  • choosing the tools to be deployed and deciding how they will be used together
  • developing and installing a strategy and all the operational procedures that accompany it
  • providing training to the team in charge
  • providing assistance for the go-live process and long-term technical support
  • defining the activity recovery plan
