The
first step consists of an assessment of the global network
infrastructure. Its objective is to characterize the network in terms
of performance, traffic flows, utilization of LAN and WAN links,
reliability and scalability design. It focuses on two
areas: nontechnical and technical.
The
nontechnical aspect is aimed at gathering information of the
organization's business goals, business type, IT staffing and
administrative policies.
The
technical aspect characterizes and documents the current network
infrastructure. It covers the following areas:
The
report of this first step will also
contain a list of all identified problems, design concerns and
recommendations on areas of improvements.
The
second step consists of designing the solutions that address the
issues identified in the first step.
